Tocumen International Airport reports that its operations are gradually returning to normal following the earthquake recorded on October 9. The Airport Operations Control Center (AOCC) reports that operations are now proceeding according to the scheduled flight banks, although delays persist on some itineraries.
In response to the ongoing aftershocks, safety protocols remain in effect. Whenever conditions require it, operations are temporarily suspended to conduct the corresponding inspections. Activities resume once it has been confirmed that conditions are safe. The safety of passengers, employees, and all other airport users remains the top priority.
During the emergency, successive inspections were carried out on the runways and passenger boarding bridges. No visible damage or foreign objects were found during the inspections of either runway, and the inspected boarding bridges were reported to be operational.
Tocumen continues to coordinate closely with the airlines, providing operational support and the necessary airport facilities to expedite the rescheduling of affected flights and facilitate the gradual departure of passengers who have been unable to continue their journeys due to cancellations caused by the seismic emergency. This joint effort seeks to address, as quickly as possible, the backlog of passengers and flights resulting from the situation.
“We are working around the clock, together with the airlines and the entities operating at the airport, to fully restore normal operations and help affected passengers continue their journeys as soon as possible. We understand the difficulties this situation has caused, and we are placing all our resources and operational capabilities at the service of a prompt resolution, without compromising the safety of our passengers and employees,” said Jose Ruiz Blanco, General Manager of Tocumen, S.A.
Estimated flight schedules will be updated on the information screens in both terminals. Passengers are advised to remain in contact with their airlines to confirm the status of their flights and to follow the instructions provided by airport personnel.
“All our efforts are focused on ensuring that passengers can continue their journeys safely,” Ruiz Blanco added.
